Sorry for being MIA from my blog lately. Over the past two months I’ve been on the go, travelling from Calgary to Hamilton for school. Anyways, here is the long over due second part from my trip to Mexico.
Seeing as our resort was outside of Puerto Vallarta, we signed up for a half day tour of the city which included lunch and a tour of a tequila factory. Here is one of the city’s landmarks, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Here is some nostalgia….this beetle definitely has made some changes to better suit the roads here in Mexico.
As you can probably guess, our size makes us kind of stand out when we are walking the streets.
Market in Puerto Vallarta. A cab to Puerto Vallarta from Riviera Nayarit is about $25, just be sure to settle on a price with the driver before leaving.
My dad wanted to bring home some hot sauce but he didn’t realize there would be so many to pick from. Luckily (or possibly unluckily) we were able to sample a bunch of them.
This was the menu at the small town we stopped at for lunch. While this may have turned some people off, I have to say that this was the best mahi-mahi of the trip.
Last stop of the tour was a family owned tequila factory, with staff being very generous in regards to the samples haha.
While the tour was great, we felt that there was so much more of Puerto Vallarta to see, so we ended up making a few more trips into town. For those thinking about going on the same tour, while in Puerto Vallarta, you will only get to see the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, stop at a jewellery store (for a bathroom break) and head to the market. I would definitely recommend coming back and spending at least a day checking out the Malecon, which is a walkway along the seashore full of shops, sculptures, and live performances. As you can see from the picture below, the Malecon gets pretty busy…
The entire length of the Malecon is filled with these sculptures and the accompanying tourists….
Starbucks and Burger King 4000 km away from home just tastes that much more satisfying…..
However, for those more interested indulging in the local cuisine you can grab a screwer of shrimp or mahi mahi for only 3 dollars!
If you’re wanting to pick up any leather goods while in Puerto Vallarta, Rolling Stones Leather is the place to go! They have a pretty impressive selection of boots made from rattlesnake to ostrich at very good prices, just be sure you check out what you can bring home.
Throughout the store were photos of previous customers which included the likes of Gene Simmons and Chuck Norris.
Upstairs in Rolling Stones Leather, you will find a collection of beautiful handcrafted model ships, which were extraordinarily detailed.
More tequila because we didn’t get enough during the tour of the tequila factory…..
